When we talked about the ideas on this album, the band wanted to keep the bird we’d given life to on ‘Wormwood’ as it became a recurring part of their merch. We had a short conversation about what we wanted the art to be and with the theme being that ‘Death’ as a boogeyman dies when humans are gone, Vince suggested a skull half buried with the bird involved somehow. I thought that having it using the skull as a nest because …it’s just a usable object at that point would be fun.
I took some reference photos and then sent over a scribble.
We got the cover kicked out and other than a few passive ideas, it sat stagnant for a little while as i juggled other jobs.
On a Monday evening, I got a phonecall. Due to some sort of massive confusion, there was a sudden deadline. Everything needed to be done by Wednesday. That meant the digipak layout, booklet, vinyl version of the layout, the stickers for the vinyl, the disc art & a few shirt designs.
I didn’t even have lyrics at this point, let alone credits/thank-you’s/sponsors/bar code info/catalog info, etc.
Considering that: I’m extremely happy with how this came together. I think it’s my favorite layout I’ve done to date.
