I wanted to do something that played into the mythology of Santiago. Most of the legends I was able to dig up were complete DOOMBRINGERS. Seriously, every single Chilote mythological creature wants to kill you.
“This one makes you a sandwich and gives you a backrub …and then it eats you”
I liked the idea of using them, but doing a different take on their origins. The Conieuma (a double flower that screams as a child on new moon) and Basilisco Chilote. The idea of the normally murderous Basilisk being protective brought something interesting to the scene.
…really, I just wanted to draw a fancy chicken from photos I’d taken at the fair.
